'Northern Border Coalition' members call for Border Patrol reforms

Protest at Oswego BP Office by Richard Vallejo, on FlickrCAIR-WA, as part of the "Northern Border Coalition" of immigrant rights groups around the country, has called on Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to stop engaging in unconstitutional practices along the Northern Border between the US and Canada.

The Coalition has sent a letter to the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, proposing several measures of reform for the CBP. This is in response to the numerous complaints against the CBP’s Border Patrol division of religious profiling and unlawful detention, amongst other questionable activities, that have been documented by CAIR-WA and other members of the Coalition over the past few years.

CAIR-WA Receives 'Connecting Communities' Award at Faith Action Network Banquet

(SEATTLE, WA, 12/21/2011) - The Washington state chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-WA) received the "Connecting Communities" award at Faith Action Network's December 3 banquet at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral in Seattle.

CAIR-WA received the award for its work in "promoting wider understanding of Islam, creating opportunities for religious dialogue, battling civil rights violations and injustices based on religion, and engaging American Muslims in advocacy for the common good."
