Question: How long do I have to volunteer?
Answer: We are seeking applicants who can commit to volunteer a few hours a week from July until late November.  Campaigns need a lot of help between now until after the elections (many weeks after elections to wrap up) so this is the time get so that you can get inside knowledge and lots of valuable political and media skills and get your foot in the door to a career in politics. CLICK HERE to apply by July 13 or earlier to attend the event!

Question: Why do we need to have this event and why get Muslims to volunteer for campaigns?
Answer: In order to ensure that politicians make decisions and statements that improve the lives of our communities (rather than the opposite), a large number of American Muslims have to be at decision-making tables where decisions on politics and public statements are made. Currently, there are very few American Muslims, who do this work with the goal of ensuring that our communities’ authentic interests are represented. Volunteering for campaigns is a great way to gain valuable skills and get your foot in the door into a career in media or politics so that soon, by being at decision-making tables, we start changing how media and politicians talk about our communities!  This event is important because it is designed to have local Muslims take that first step. We’ll also have a special event for those who complete at least 100 campaign volunteer hours, where we’ll provide them (or their children if they're not in school) with information to apply for up to $100,000 in scholarships. This is important because in addition to helping you gain experience, understand how media and politics work and get a "foot in the door" to a career in those fields, we also are giving you a chance to apply for scholarships to help you fund education that helps you advance toward a career in media/politics so that you can ensure our communities’ authentic perspectives are included at decision-making tables in these fields.

Question:  Will you only have Democrats or only Republicans there?
Answer:  We will take all measures to ensure that campaigns of both parties are present and that all candidates in any given race are present.  Our goal is to ensure that American Muslims are involved in both parties so that both parties see that they have to work hard to earn our community members’ votes, and so that very soon, local Muslims continue to volunteer/intern at political offices and work their way up to decision making positions, to ensure that American Muslims have a voice in both parties.

Question: What kind of volunteer positions are available in the campaigns?
Answer:  Campaigns are looking to fill many positions! The most common needs are: volunteers to make phone calls to voters, to visiting voters in your neighborhood. Some campaigns might also need IT and data entry and much more, but the work that’s most needed is to make phone calls to voters, to visiting voters in your neighborhood.

Question: Will there be day care?
Answer: Childcare is not available, however if you have a young child(ren), you are very welcome to bring them with you. Please be sure to note this in your application so that can plan for seating/reception space accordingly.

Question: I’m finding that my beliefs don’t align with some candidates, what should I do?
Answer:  The goal of this effort is to use this year’s election to have a large number of local Muslims get real experience in how to make a difference in politics and get your foot in the door.  You’ll find that while no one candidate is perfectly and fully aligned with all of your views, there are many candidates whose platform doesn’t conflict with your views and additionally many of your views may be aligned and you can choose to sign up at the event to volunteer for that campaign.

Question: Will there be food?
Answer: Yes! We will serve a delicious breakfast for those who arrive early, by 9:30 AM before the event begins.
