Meet New Executive Director, Imraan Siddiqi

بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
As Salaam Alaikum Dear Washington Community,

It gives me great excitement and hope to join the CAIR Washington team as your new Executive Director! This new era begins right in the midst of the most pivotal election of our lifetimes, during a tumultuous time for not only American Muslims—but our country. As a seasoned CAIR leader who has helped build the Arizona chapter over the past 9 years, I am confident that we will persevere together as a community, no matter what the future has in store.

I come to the Washington state community inspired by the supportive environment of masjids, organizations, allies and most importantly: you, our supporters. I cannot wait to get to meet you all and gather your ideas on how to continue upon the outstanding work CAIR Washington has put forth throughout its history.

Thank you for continuing to believe in and support the indispensable work that this organization does. Together, we will build an institution that will be a hub for civil rights and advocacy for the Washington community for generations to come.

Wa’Salaam,

Imraan Siddiqi
Executive Director
CAIR Washington

Imraan Siddiqi is an advocate, nonprofit leader and prominent voice for justice in the American Muslim community.

Born in Auburn, Alabama, Imraan spent most of his life in the metro Atlanta area. Throughout his career, which has spanned the corporate, entrepreneurial and nonprofit worlds, he has written extensively on the subjects of Islamophobia and issues impacting American Muslims. In 2011, Imraan joined the CAIR-Arizona Board of Directors to help re-build the chapter to serve Muslims locally. Under his board leadership, the organization was able to grow from zero to three full-time staff by 2015. In 2015, Imraan became the full-time Executive Director of CAIR-AZ, leading the chapter to become a leading force for civil rights locally.

Imraan has been a leading voice in the age of social media, such as starting the #NoBanNoWall campaign, as well as leading many nationally and globally recognized social media campaigns. He has appeared in media outlets across the world for his commentary and thoughts on a wide array of issues. He holds an MBA from Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business as well as his Bachelors in Marketing from the University of Texas-Arlington. Imraan enjoys the outdoors, hiking and traveling with his wife and three sons. He is truly excited to step into the role of Executive Director at CAIR-WA and continue to build off this chapter’s amazing success!

The 2020 Census: Why Should I Care?

Every 10 years, the U.S Census Bureau attempts to count every person living in the country. Information collected from the census is used to make decisions that impact communities for the next 10 years. Things like:

  • Funding for schools and roads
  • Funding for healthcare for children, the elderly, and low-income
  • Political empowerment including redistricting and representation in Congress and the Electoral College

Unfortunately, Muslims and other communities of color have historically been undercounted in the census. This decreases funding that our communities could benefit from for schools and healthcare and further limits our civic voice and representation.

We need to achieve a full and complete count of all communities to ensure fair representation in Congress and full funding for programs like Medicaid, Highway Planning and Construction, Children’s Health Insurance Program, and Health Center Programs.

There will be NO citizenship question. The Trump administration’s attempts to include it on the census failed.

Check out these additional resources on the census:

Our gratitude goes to the approx. 1,000 community members who graced last night's banquet with your presence and joined our growing list of supporters.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to raise over $260,000 to defend civil rights, empower American Muslims and promote mutual understanding. We will continue to work toward raising our 2017 budget of $500,000 so that we can scale our work to meet the challenges and grasp the opportunities before us so that in the future, not far from now, American Muslim children can grow up with the same hopes and dreams as any young American. If your family or friends missed the banquet last night, they can still donate here.

We are also humbled by the dedication and hard work of the more than 100 volunteers and table captains helped make the event possible. Thank you!
