(SEATTLE, WA, 4/4/2023) The Washington state chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-WA) praises today’s passing of a resolution that formally recognizes Ramadan in the state of Washington, brought forth by Senator Yasmin Trudeau.

The resolution, SR 8640 was heard and passed on the Senate Floor during Tuesday morning’s Pro Forma Session. Titled “Recognizing and honoring Ramadan,” the resolution was co-sponsored by 16 Senators.

“This is truly an important moment for Muslims in the State of Washington, as we approach the second half of Ramadan 2023,” said Imraan Siddiqi, CAIR-WA’s executive director.“We thank Senator Trudeau and the team who helped put together this resolution, as well as our lawmakers who are recognizing this holy month for Muslims across the globe.”

Just two weeks ago, CAIR-WA led a Day of Action at the State Capitol in Olympia, alongside many community members, partners and Muslims who work in the legislature, including Senator Trudeau.
